So I heard.
I thought that the famous British Fog was under control.

I remember my ship having to anchor off the "Hook of Holland" for three days waiting for the chance to enter the river to go to Rotterdam.
It was thick enough to actually justify the overworked "Pea Soup" expression. Maritime traffic from Germany to Britain and south to Calais was essentiallty stopped dead unless you consider a few vessels creeping along through the muck at a pace I could exceed these days in my wheelchair to be traffic.
That was in 1966 or '65.

I thought I had read that, with the creation and enforcement of stringent carbon burning standards, that was under control.

It's the famous London smog that is under control.

When I was very young my family lived in London for about 4 years. Around 1958 my mother had to go shopping one day and so of course we had to go with her. She wrapped a lemon-yellow scarf across my face. When we got home there was a black circle where it had been over my mouth. Ah, those were the days!
